In addition to hardware processors, software-based audio processing solutions are increasingly being used in modern broadcast environments. These run on standard servers or virtual machines and can be integrated into existing IT infrastructures or cloud environments.
Software processors offer the same core functionality as traditional hardware systems, such as automatic gain control, multiband compression and limiting, but with greater flexibility in configuration and scalability. This allows broadcasters to easily add extra processing instances for new channels, streaming platforms or temporary broadcasts without installing additional hardware.
This type of solution is often used in IP-based workflows, for example for online radio, streaming platforms or virtual playout systems. By deploying processing as a software service, the infrastructure can be managed more easily and adapted to changing distribution requirements.
