Audio & video over IP
Audio and Video over IP (AV over IP) is a technology in which audio and video signals are no longer transmitted via traditional cables such as XLR, AES/EBU or SDI, but as data over a network. This allows signals to be flexibly shared, routed and managed within a single infrastructure.
This is ideal in studios, control rooms and broadcast environments where multiple systems work together. With AV over IP, you can make audio and video available anywhere within the network, which makes workflows more efficient and simplifies the process of expanding or adapting systems.

Audio over IP (AoIP)
Audio over IP enables audio signals to be transmitted over a network rather than via traditional cabling. This allows sources to be sent to multiple destinations and managed flexibly. There are various technologies within AoIP, each with its own characteristics and advantages.
Livewire+
Livewire+ is an integrated AoIP solution primarily used in radio environments. The system offers real-time audio routing with minimal latency and integrates seamlessly with Axia mixing consoles and playout systems. This technology is ideal for studios requiring high reliability and direct integration with broadcast workflows.
Dante
Dante is a versatile AoIP solution that is easy to use and compatible with many brands. It offers plug-and-play configuration and scalability, making it suitable for AV installations and hybrid studios where multiple devices from different suppliers work together.
RAVENNA
RAVENNA is an open standard offering high audio resolution and low latency, making it suitable for large and complex broadcast environments. It is frequently used in professional radio and TV studios and enables flexible routing and integration with other systems.
AES67
AES67 is an interoperability standard that enables communication between different AoIP systems such as Livewire+, Dante and RAVENNA. It ensures that systems from different brands work together seamlessly, thereby forming a connecting link within mixed-system workflows.
Video over IP

SMPTE 2110
SMPTE 2110 is the professional broadcast standard in which audio, video and metadata are separated into distinct data streams. It offers maximum flexibility, low latency and high quality for live television productions and multi-site workflows.

IPMX

How do you choose the right solution?
Choosing the right AV-over-IP solution depends on your workflow, scale and technical requirements. Key questions include whether you’ll be working primarily with audio, video or both; how many sources and destinations there are; whether multiple locations need to be connected; and what latency and resolution are required. For smaller audio installations, Livewire+ or Dante are often sufficient. For flexible video productions, NDI or IPMX are suitable choices. In large, integrated studios where audio and video converge, an SMPTE 2110 infrastructure with RAVENNA or AES67 offers the greatest flexibility and scalability. IP-based infrastructures make expansion easy, allowing new workstations or studios to be added without major changes to the core infrastructure.
