Sound card solutions
Sound cards come in various forms and with a range of functionalities. Depending on the application, the number of channels and the desired connectivity, you can choose from different types. We explain them below.
How do you choose the right solution?
Choosing the right sound card depends on the workflow, the number of channels, the required connectivity and the technical requirements of the production. For small-scale setups, such as a single workstation or a few channels, PCI cards or external USB/Thunderbolt interfaces are often sufficient. For setups with multiple workstations, distributed control rooms or remote production, a network-based AoIP interface, such as Dante, Axia or Lawo, offers the greatest flexibility and scalability.
It is also important to consider future growth: network-based sound cards can be easily expanded with additional channels or workstations, whereas local internal or external cards are less flexible. Compatibility with other equipment and protocols also plays a role in the choice. A well-chosen sound card ensures reliable audio transmission, minimal latency, optimal sound quality and a future-proof infrastructure that grows with your production environment.
